TRAVEL REPORT
October 24 - 28, 2016
SEMINAR OVERVIEW
Our seminar was an awesome
experience for me and maybe for them, not because it’s my first time travelling
with an airplane but because I travelled with my friends. I collect beautiful
memories in Manila; we ate in different buffet restaurants, and shop in
different malls. Five days in Manila is not enough for us to learn but I know
in those days we have so much fun and learning for now.
Day 1
This is the first day of our
trip, the day when we can smell the air in manila but that is not the highlight
event of this day. It is the seminar in DOST where we learn what is project
NOAH that stands for National Operational Assessment of Hazards. I don’t have
any picture in DOST’s place but its okay.
What I learned?
The
seminar in DOST taught me that follow your dreams and not just follow, do it.
Because project NOAH is first all about the dream of a man to help his uncle
detect or know what will be the weather on his village. I learned also that
project NOAH is all about notifying people that there’s a calamity coming.
Project NOAH is partnered with PAG-ASA.
What I liked?
I liked
what we ate at the first day in Manila even though it is Mcdonalds and common
in Davao but it is not just a Chicken fillet with rice, it two piece chicken
and it made my stomach full.
What I didn’t like?
I did
not like the traffic in Manila, because it is my first time there but as the
time pass by I kinda like it because I can spend time sleeping in the bus.
Day 2
We woke
up early on this day, but we waited almost an hour waiting for the bus because
of the traffic. On this day, we got a seminar at Ideaspace foundation, Makati.
After the seminar at Ideaspace we fight again the heavy traffic of EDSA just to
go to MMDA.
What I learned?
First,
in Ideaspace foundation, they are the one who encourage youth like me to think
ideas that can change the life of people and can help them, and do miracles.
They gave us a deep quote “Fail fast
fight again” in my own understanding, this quote tells us that if we fail
it is not the end, we can do it again. Lastly, in MMDA, they showed us how they
control the traffic; how they help the police caught some of the thief’s in
Manila.
What I liked?
I like
the cookies in the Ideaspace, I also like what where doing for the future
technology. While in MMDA, I like how they manage the traffics, the many tv’s
and the speakers.
What I didn’t like?
On this
day there’s nothing to be disliked with.
Day 3
For me
or maybe also for them, it is the most awaited day because we are going to the
one of the elite school in Manila, the UP Diliman campus. Because we haven’t
joined the Y4IT they arranged a mini Y4IT for us and present good speakers.
What I learned?
In the
first speaker I learned that there are two types of hacker, the white hat
hacker which is the good hacker, and the black hat hacker which is the bad
side. The speaker also taught us not by publicly speaking but how he shares his
experience from black hat hacker to white hat hacker. He taught us from his own
experience that nothing is constant.
What I liked?
I like
how good the speaker in mini Y4IT.
What I didn’t like?
I don’t
like the time management of this day.
Day 4
On
this day, we go to Advance World Solutions at Ayala Avenue, Makati city and
attend the seminar that prepared for us.
What I learned?
I learned a lot in AWS, who they are
and what they do. Their environment was great and they often speak Japanese
because AWS is a Japanese company and that is cool.
What I liked?
I liked
how they treat us in AWS and I liked that they also speak visayan language
there.
What I didn’t like?
Nothing
to dislike on this day.
Day 5
Today,
we are about to leave Manila but we’ll never forget what it’s like being there.
What I liked?
I love our last breakfast because their food
really makes my tummy smile and full. By the way, I also liked the part that we
had pictures with our girl tourist guide and the girl cabin crews or known as
flight attendants before we left Manila because they are very beautiful in our
eyes.
What I didn’t like?
What
I did not like is the feeling that I am missing again such great people and
things that I experienced there because we’re about to travel back in our respective
homes and missing a person and an experience really makes me hurt by thinking
of it.
APPENDIX
What can I recommend
for the improvement of the advance seminar program of USEP?
First, it should be really a good
practice if you will have a meeting with the class and with the parents 3-5
months before because this field trip is not a joke and must be discussed well.
I also recommend to have more days spent and many ICT companies to explore.
Anyways, the seminars are good and I did not regret the days that we spent with
my classmates on this subject.
My advice to those who
will take their advance seminar program in the near future.
My advice to those students who will
soon take this subject is never leave your partner at anytime and anywhere
because you don’t know the place that you are travelling and is too easy to be
lost. I advice also to have a lot of pictures in every place that you guys went
because it is very useful when it comes on writing journals like this.
